Show Hide 1 older comment. denbud on 14 Feb 2014 REFPROP, and therefore the REFPROPFlowStation, runs fast if the composition is set to a pure fluid or a pseudo-pure fluid. However, execution speed slows when composition comprises multiple fluids, whether set via a predefined mixture file (".mix" extension) or defined manually via the FlowStation comp attribute. There is a file int eh REFPROP/MIXTURE folder labled R401A.MIX.

It implements three models for the thermodynamic properties of pure fluids: equations of state explicit in Helmholtz energy, the modified Benedict-Webb-Rubin equation of state, and an extended corresponding states (ECS) model.

MATLAB is an awful(!) environment for calling shared libraries (DLL) or C++ code. Calculate properties in Matlab. From Matlab command line you can call the methods in Prode Properties by typing the names, for example to calculate cp/cv at specified conditions >> EstrGCp(1,300,500000)/EstrGCv(1,300,500000) >> ans = 1.3211 or, to calculate the speed of sound for vapor phase at same conditions >> EstrGSS(1,300,500000) >> ans = 374.1625 It contains a limited number of pure fluids (water, CO2, R134a, nitrogen, oxygen, methane, propane, helium, hydrogen, and dodecane), along with air as a pseudo-pure fluid.

This is one of the many reasons that we don't recommend that you use MATLAB directly with CoolProp. MATLAB is an awful(!) environment for calling shared libraries (DLL) or C++ code.
